Healthy Dose Of Chocolate

April 19th, 2010

Do you frequently find concern over your relationship with chocolate?

Finally some good news.  You can actually eat chocolate for your health.  Yes, studies have been done and found that cocoa the actual source of chocolate has mono unsaturated fat, which can help raise your good cholesterol.

Not only that, but chocolate increases your antioxidant levels in your blood.  Cocoa is also a great source of magnesium, and helps the chemistry of your brain and helps build strong bones. In addition, it makes you feel happier.  Chocolate also has flavonoids to increase the elasticity of your blood vessels.

Chocolate includes phenyl ethylamine, which helps elevate your mood.  Chocolate is also high in sulfur, so it can help you grow stronger hair, stronger nails, and keep your skin clear.  So much for the myth that chocolate causes acne.

One thing you do need to know is I am not talking about milk chocolate.  The chocolate that is good for you is dark chocolate.  The reason for this is milk chocolate is high in fat because of how it is processed.  However, does it really matter? Isn’t it great to know, that you can get some mini dark chocolate candy bars and splurge on them occasionally and it is actually good for you?

The healthiest chocolate is the raw or the least processed cocoa.  Because of the flavonoids included in this type of chocolate, you will get many antioxidant benefits.  Here are some ways these antioxidants can help you.

They can help lower your blood pressure and improve blood circulation through your body.  Because of this, you will have a lower risk of heart disease.  They also help reduce free radicals, which can lessen your chance of serious illnesses such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer.

These antioxidants can also help improve digestion.  The flavonoids in cocoa are great for protecting your heart, but that does not mean you can eat it all day long.  As with anything, it is best to eat this in moderation.  You cannot use chocolate to replace your daily-recommended food sources such as fruits, vegetables, fiber, good fats, or proteins.

Go ahead and have a little piece of chocolate every day.  As long as you don’t overdo it, just knowing that this delicious dark chocolate has antioxidants that can help you stay healthy, makes each day just a little more fun.
