I often wonder how many people go through life never achieving that one special thing that they desire. How often others come to the end of their life and still have that empty feeling deep down inside that they never could fill. I am not referring to an emptiness created by lack of money, a lost love for fear of rejection, never having children, or death of another.
I am referring to that emptiness created by never pursuing that one thing that completes you. That missing piece of your daily existence that keeps you awake, energizes you, gives you butterflies, drives you, makes you oblivious to the rest of the world, never requires any effort, distracts you, that one thing you would pursue without compensation, something you totally believe in with all of your heart, or simply your dream.
Your dream of doing only that one thing that drives you deep down inside.
I am referring to those things in life for which you have a true passion. You may have more than one.
We all have a passion for something; however, many never pursue it or do not know how to find it.
I am sure there are many that will live their lives with an unexplained emptiness.
Some of us may just require a little nudge or tap to help motivate us to pursue or find our passion.
I wrote some time ago about a short trip I took with my daughter and how my objective was to help her discover what she should do with her life. Naturally, I thought I was the expert since I am her father, older, and have acquired more wisdom with time.
Our debate centered around whether she should take a year off before going to college. Her theory was that she could then figure out what she wanted to do with her life. My response was that she needed to get away from her parents and safely experience the world. Living back and forth between two professional parents can impair your thinking and creativity. I stressed that meeting new people from all walks of life, with different interest, would help her find that thing she is searching for.
I think we can all have the potential to help someone, we encounter in our lives, find their passion.
It may be as simple as taking a little time out of your day and showing a sincere interest in someone. Try sitting down and listening empathetically, learn something about them, and ask them what they really want to do with their life. You may be the first to have ever shown an interest in them. Up until this point in their lives they may have always been told what they were going to do.
This may be the only tap or nudge that person needs to turn their life around.
Make it your passion to help someone start working on a dream.
