How To Become More Successful By Killing Procrastination

09 Aug

Multitasking is a part of every day life for many of us. However, constant multitasking can lead to difficulty concentrating on important issues that require your immediate attention.

Concentration is when you are able to focus all of your attention on one single task or activity. Improving your ability to concentrate will allow you to complete task faster and more efficiently.

Concentration and procrastination are closely related. Improving your ability to concentrate will help you overcome procrastination.

Starting today, take the time to learn the basic steps that will help you to improve your concentration. Make yourself practice these steps on a daily basis.

1. Center Your Thoughts- this means while you are supposed to be writing that report try your best to block out that conversation you just had with your spouse, employer, unhappy customer, or others. Try putting those issues at rest so they do not interfere will your ability to focus on your present task. If you need to think about those issues, allow yourself a specific amount of time then get back to working on your most important task.

2. Decrease The Noise- this may mean turning off the radio, your pager, your cell phone, getting rid of that ticking clock and even turning off your email. If you are working at home you may need to lock your office door or at least let your family know that you will be doing activity that demands concentration and no interruptions.

Noise is one of the main things that can disrupt your concentration. However, you may focus better with your favorite music in the background. Listening to your favorite music or other types of background noise is actually beneficial, for some, in helping filter out thoughts that are impairing your ability to focus.

3. Eliminatate Distractions- if you find yourself staring out the window instead of working it may be time to find a new location to work on important projects. Keep the clutter cleared, so that you only focus on the task at hand. Your ability to focus will be impaired if you have to constantly look for things needed to complete your task.

4. What Is Your Strategy For Completing Your Task- this is an essential way to help you concentrate if your project is a big one. Break the project down into a sequence of smaller tasks. Make a lists of these tasks and check them off as you complete each one. When you have completed a certain number of task be sure to take a small break.

5. Set Deadlines- this gives you a goal. You should break your project down into smaller tasks and set a time line for completing each task. Try using a timer and try working intensely and nonstop for a certain amount of time then take a break.

6. Take Care Of Your Health- this means you need to take the steps and time for exercise, rest and eating healthy. Make sure you take some time out for yourself. It is important that you drink plenty of water. Inadequate fluid intake or dehydration can impair your ability to concentrate. Following the appropriate steps to remain healthy will help your feel more energetic and productive.

There are many health related problems that can impair your ability to concentrate. Attention deficit disorder can present in many different ways. It is important to talk with your health care provider about your concerns. They can evaluate you to make sure there are no medically related issues that may be impairing your ability to concentrate. They can also perform testing or refer you to the appropriate specialist to determine if you may have attention deficit disorder. There are medications available for the treatment of attention deficit disorder that could change your life dramatically if taken appropriately.

Improving your ability to concentrate will come with small changes and modifying your environment. The better you are able to concentrate the easier it will be to complete task that you may have been putting off and eliminate procrastination from your life. You will then find that your life becomes more productive, fullfilling and enjoyable.
